Learn About Vision Impairment Toolkit
If your child experiences any kind of vision loss, these resources and the organizations that created them can help you learn about vision impairment. The resources in this toolkit provide general information.
When seeking out specific help for your child, find out what services are available closest to where you live. Services available will vary from country to country, state to state, and even county to county. Ask your child’s primary doctor or eye doctor: “How can I get in touch with the lead agency in charge of vision services for children (early intervention, school-aged)?” If your doctor does not know, ask for help.
Getting the services your child needs is not always easy. Learn what you can do. Your role is critical – you know your child better than anyone. Don’t be shy about speaking up, even though there may be many people involved. Share what you know about your child & what you wish others to know. This effort will be worthwhile!
